Sharing my first blog post in a series of visits for the ERC-funded GlobalDecoPaper Project. It investigates two marbled paper folios detached from an early 17th c. manuscript from Bijapur. Many thanks to the Met Museum staff for hosting me. www.globaldecopaper.gwi.uni-muenchen.de/2026/05/31/n...
Our art trip this weekend was to Dulwich Picture Gallery for the “Beyond Ravillious” exhibition of the work of Tirzah Garwood. It is excellent and rightly popular. Garwood was a painter, did wood engraving, embroidery, marbled paper and wallpaper design, and collage before and after WW2.
While I am humbled to receive this award, it comes at a difficult moment. So many innocent friends and colleagues in Iran, who helped me to secure images vital for not only my thesis but also forthcoming book remain under threat of violence. I honestly don’t know if they’re still alive.
