Last time it was a red heat warning in London in 2022: - Wildfires burned down several homes, causing the fire brigade’s busiest day since the blitz. - TfL and Rail asked people not to travel. - And we came close to a blackout in parts of London as the electricity grid lost efficiency in the heat.
Of course, hot weather has other risks - so we’re going to have raised ozone levels this week in London as well. Will there be any noticeable reduction in traffic this week?

Next week is London Climate Action Week…
No one necessarily needs me to join in the commentary about this utter pudding of a piece, but I *love* the idea of an comment article on how Westminster has lost track of the interests of ordinary people also utterly dismissing out of hand the political relevance of bus travel.

Government have tried to bury some bad news - for Rachel Reeves anyway - today as *their own* cost-benefit assessment of Heathrow expansion plan finds it would LOSE between £21 to £121 billion! A climate catastrophic boondoggle clutched for by a chancellor with no real ideas for ‘delivering growth’

This is flat wrong from Unite. It’s just not true there’s been ‘almost no thought for jobs, skills and national security’. There’s been a huge amount of thought on all these issues and a decision has been made that jobs, skills, and security all benefit from a faster clean energy transition.

Well, it’s only one extra bit of shading - but it’s definitely one of the most helpful places to have it! Patio door now covered up ahead of the second london heatwave of the year.
37 degrees in London for three days is it? YIKES. Time to review the Shade the UK list of ideas again to see if there’s anything further I can do on the flat. (Main thing is getting at least a temporary canopy up over the sunny patio, I suspect) So many ideas: www.shadetheuk.com/overheating-...

“Do take water and sun cream with you” says BBC News live on the red warning on extreme heat. NOPE. Not the advice. “Substantial changes in working practices and daily routines will be required” weather.metoffice.gov.uk/warnings-and...
And incredibly BBC repeated the wrong advice at 11AM. All the BBC or any broadcaster need to do is read the detail of the warning and communicate it. It’s not that hard. We had over 20 deaths from cold water shock alone during and after the last heatwave. weather.metoffice.gov.uk/warnings-and...

I’m issuing a high air pollution alert for London on Monday 22 June. Hot, sunny weather and pollution from continental Europe are expected to raise ozone levels. Please help protect yourself and others, especially vulnerable people, by reducing car journeys and avoiding engine idling.
