Actually I would go even further and say that if we are going to consider LDS a type of Christianity despite their numerous deviations from Nicene orthodoxy, you'd actually be on firmer ground considering Islam a type of Christianity

If I talk theology with an Orthodox Christian or a Protestant Christian, we're talking about the same thing, we have the same terms and a general sense of the same theology. But LDS is not in the same category. We don't agree on who Jesus is. It's more like talking religion with a Muslim or a Jew
