Days after the Trump administration vowed to dismantle a deep-ocean observation system, the European Union said it would bolster its own monitoring of the world’s oceans to improve climate forecasting and better anticipate changes to marine ecosystems.
It’s increasingly unlikely that we will survive this presidency.
The costume makes you smile and the dance makes you laugh out loud. A+
Ted's novel Phoenix Prime sported this Frazetta cover
Inside front cover of #1. I start each issue with our characters tiny in the landscape. Being in this part of the world you see it is simply vast. Since Concrete gets lost, in every way, in this story, I wanted to underline that. #Concrete #StarsOverSand

SF writer and editor Ted White has passed, and his daughter could use help with the cremation. I hope she finds a good home for his papers, which will be treasures for SF scholars.
Big influence and personality to teenaged me, edited Amazing and Fantastic with a counterculture sensibility, deep historical knowledge of the field, and intimate connections with fandom culture. Wrote prolifically, adventurous SF with a lot of forward momentum always.
RIP Ted.
Days after the U.S. said it would kill a network of ocean monitors, European officials pledged to invest more in their version, calling it a “necessity.”
Yeah, now seems like just the right time to dismantle a $368 million system of deep ocean monitoring buoys. :-/

Trump has now rolled back fishing protections in every U.S. Marine National Monument, opening millions of acres of previously protected ocean waters to commercial fishing. The move threatens critical habitat for whales, sea turtles, sharks, coral reefs, and other marine life.
Is the cold blob caused by a shifting jet stream, or by a weakening AMOC, which would be even more worrying?
A new study from @rahmstorf.bsky.social et al sheds more light…

A patch of ocean south-east of Greenland is the only place on Earth that is cooling, and it could be a sign that the warm water "conveyor belt" in the Atlantic is slowing down
RIP Ted White!
One of the great editors, authors, and fanac moguls of science fiction. I miss his wry comments and voice. Peace to you, Ted!
Ted's daughter, Kit, is trying to raise some funds for cremation expense, if you can chip in, appreciated.
