Meta’s new Facebook and Instagram “Plus” subscriptions are now live in the US, although there’s still no UK launch date.
What’s interesting is that paying for Facebook still feels weird somehow - even though LinkedIn Premium has existed for years.

The features themselves are pretty predictable:
fewer ads
extra privacy controls
creator tools
profile customisation
early access to AI features
The bigger shift is that more of the internet is moving behind subscriptions.

I think the difference is that LI was always framed as a professional tool. Paying for networking/ hiring feels understandable.
Facebook and Instagram were always positioned as social spaces first, so introducing subscription layers changes the relationship people have with them.
