Backrooms and Obsession are getting discussed together a lot.
But Backrooms, while a massive success, is performing like a traditional release. Huge opening weekend, big week 2 drop off. I don't think Backrooms will even catch Obsession despite out grossing it by $64,205,569 opening weekend.

Some films(examples below) slowly grow their box office weekend totals, but it's mostly driven by theaters picking the film up & award nomination buzz.
Obsession hardly got added in weeks 2 & 3, with the biggest increase coming in week 4 but still being a small increase.

Its hard to convey just how unprecedented Obsession's box office trajectory is without it sounding like hyperbole.
Struggling to find any wide releases that saw increases on opening weekend the way Obsession did and there really isn't. Looks like a genuine unicorn.

This weekend's box office solidifes two huge moments on 2026 film:
1. Obsession's success is incredible and the trajectory was truly historic. You won't find comparable films
2. Mandalorian and Grogu was a massive dud and has been falling down a cliff since its low opening weekend
