In March 1651, a dike breach wreaked havoc just outside the walls of Amsterdam, inundating a whole polder. The damage was so spectacular that artists flocked to the site, documenting the disaster and its aftermath in sketches, oil paintings, and engravings. These by J. Asselijn and W. Schellinks 1/
