most child predation happens irl from someone the child knows, usually a family member. social media restrictions like this are a double edged sword in that they take away resources from children in abusive situations in their real life

I don't think this is true. A big part of the concern is child predation. That's something uniquely bad for minors
I do not support a ban, but I think it's somewhat strange to believe there aren't differences between the effect of something on minors vs adults, many things have such a difference

social media that's bad for minors is obviously bad for adults too. crazy to me that the move seems to be to just accept that and ban minors rather than regulate the obvious design patterns that were put in there on purpose which make it harmful to its users
