The New Yorker had a great article on the magazine's legendary fact checking process. It recounts a dramatic story on how a John McPhee article on World War II & a Japanese incendiary balloon was fact checked. I remember when McPhee told me the story--I was on the edge of my seat. bit.ly/472ropL
