The team, led by Mike Hinchliffe from #EdNapier's Centre for Conservation & Restoration Science (CCRS), will carry out fieldwork on the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders.
If the method proves effective, they hope it could be replicated across the temperate northern hemisphere.
