On the one hand, you've got years of anticipation, fandom, and general good will built into THE BACKROOMS. There's FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY's popularity being tapped into there, but it wasn't as visible to outsiders due to the lack of loud merchandise.
(It also helps that the movie is very good!)
