Minnesota should do this and to make it real simple for everyone to understand just make the tax 10% of listed gross vehicle weight (averaged across all trim lvls).
My 4th gen RAV4 would be something like $346.65/yr
Reach out to your state electeds and ask for a progressive vehicle weight fee like Washington DC

We need a vehicle weight tax. If you can justify buying an $80k, 3,000 kg Wagoneer to haul one bag of groceries, taxpayers shouldn't be subsidizing your pavement wear and tear plus the added danger to our streets. If you can afford the payments, you can afford to stop asking society to subsidize it.
