This beautiful tetradrachm was struck at the city of Eretria on Euboea.
The detail on the octopus is incredible with its sinuous tentacles, suckers and intelligent-looking head. Whilst the octopus was a civic emblem for Eretria, it was also important for it to be decorative & bold.
