EU authorities say enforcement efforts have improved but remain inadequate on smaller peat-cutting sites
European Commission takes Ireland to court over turf-cutting enforcement failures

As a Uni lecturer, it’s depressing that every student assignment you read has become a Turing Test. Am I marking the effort of a tyro intellectual, or the average of the average of what a plagiarism machine spits out after burning a 🔥 a ton of CH4 ? It‘s insulting to us humans, & to the humanities.
On the destruction of US science: "The plan is to kill off publicly funded academic science in this country. The motives include sheer bloody-minded hostility along with a desire to get their own hands on the funding. [Why?] it’s mostly stupidity, arrogance, & greed." www.science.org/content/blog...
"The cost of data centre growth in Ireland: Households paid an estimated €715 million more in electricity bills" Excellent, detailed new FOE Ireland modelling confirming with hard evidence that this industry is making power less accessible www.friendsoftheearth.ie/news/the-cos...
"In effect on the ground there is no ceasefire. There are daily multiple bombings primarily across the south, Israeli troops are occupying dozens of villages & towns in the south" Alex Crawford reporting from Lebanon
JUST DROPPED: For years I thought industrial electrification potential was limited. How wrong I was. Engineering studies point to 90%+. Long term scenarios support this. Technology is much further ahead than we think. Question is whether policy keeps up. janrosenow.substack.com/p/industry-f...

How far can industry run on electricity?Much ffurther and faster than the 'hard-to-abate' label suggests.

Rusal, the company that owns the Co Limerick industrial plant Aughinish Alumina, continues to be controlled by sanctioned Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, according to a confidential report by Swedish tax authorities. www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2026...

"Despite blasé demeanour of the Taoiseach & his ministers, missing our legal #climate targets is not a trivial matter. Govt’s own expert advisers have warned the state is facing a “staggering” EU non-compliance bill of €8-€26 billion" My take in @thejournal.ie www.thejournal.ie/readme/clima...

Putin associate still controls Aughinish Alumina parent company, Swedish investigators allege
From deadly heatwaves to missed targets, the climate warning signs are flashing red, while political urgency in Ireland is nowhere to be seen.

Wild to think we might have three trillion dollar IPOs this year across Anthropic, OpenAI and SpaceX.

"If data centres were a country, they would be the second-largest destination for gas turbines ordered from Q1 2025 to Q1 2026" New IEA report confirms this isn't a normal industry. It is a fossil-fuelled, high-polluting heavy industry producing socially corrosive products at massive climate cost.
