I've started re-working some of my resource lists, to collect them all in one place! More resources on other topics will be coming soon 📊 Link: nrennie.rbind.io/resources/ #RStats #DataViz #Maps #RSpatial
If ever there was a time to subscribe to an award winning magazine publishing the best scifi in the business…. Now seems a good time.
“Within two minutes we were able to get ChatGPT to tell us how we can cut ourselves safely. Within 65 minutes it was giving us a full personalised suicide plan and drafting suicide notes for our family and friends.” Shut it all down. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06...
The legendary @guijacquemet.bsky.social at Sigrid Juselius #AI Symposium. "I'm a cell biologist", but then 1/3 of the talk went to mechanistic cell biology, 1/3 algorithmic technology development and 1/3 AI. Gonna get him a decaf... (legend says he's also coming up soon with adaptive microscopy)
I stand by a comment I made last week. If Thermo want to be seen as taking this seriously, they should hold themselves to the same standards as their customers are. Anyone using this kind if 'optimisation' in a paper would be looking at a retraction for fraud.

🎉Now OPEN FOR REGISTRATION - join us Sep 14-16 in Giessen for the RTG 2355 International Conference as we explore RNA’s critical functions! Register 👉tinyurl.com/rtg2355conf We have slots for short talks and a poster session in the "Palmenhaus", so submit an abstract to present your own work!
Fantastic line of speakers for this upcoming edition of #CBIAS26🤩 With a novelty this year: image analysis beyond bio! Let's all share expertise, who knows, maybe tracking stars accros the galaxy is as exciting and challenging as tracking cells accros a whole embryo? Share far and wide #microscopy

Why are we still talking about quantity when the crisis hitting research is quality/reproducibility? Relying on hallucination prone, poorly defined, low reproducibility methods is not going to solve anything but increase the global data noise overwhelming us. Who's gonna do the critical thinking?

A little extra is in this month's editorial: clarkesworldmagazine.com/clarke_06_26/
Thermo Fisher now has a page up in response to our observations. They flatly deny that images were manipulated or fabricated while repeating that images were "optimized for presentation and clarity on the website", no lie, six times. www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/l...
Finally out in @Cellcellpress! Proteins with long IDRs are prone to misfolding during protein synthesis. This is prevented by mRNA 3′UTRs that act as mRNA-based IDR chaperones. www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...
Excited to share the first pre-print from our lab!! Check it out here! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... We found that many RNA-binding proteins canonically understood to regulate RNA processing can also function like transcription factors and cofactors to directly regulate transcription.
Artificial intelligence systems will allow a single PhD student’s output to match that of a whole laboratory, according to Demis Hassabis, a Nobel laureate for chemistry.
@gomez-mariscal.bsky.social first talk as a PI!!! Unsurprisingly, she rocked!

Highly conserved mRNA 3′ UTRs act as co-translational chaperones for intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs), preventing inter-domain misfolding and enabling biogenesis of fully active proteins.

The Thermo Fisher situation keeps getting worse. We've now collected 450+ problematic images presented as verification data in TF's antibody catalog. This includes: 🖌️ Dozens more images with duplications or painting 🖨️ Hundreds of blots that all share the same background (behold slideshow below)
