I have one which is only moderately embarrassing, about attending a talk by William Fishman - legendary historian/ chronicler of the East End Jewish and anarchist life in the 19th century (my own area), c.2003. I gushed quite a lot during the Q&A and desperately tried to get some anecdotes about 1/2

Occasionally bumped into Carlo Ginzburg doing photocopying in UCL when I worked there. He would sometimes come and do guest lectures. Once I mumbled something about being inspired by micro-history and he looked at me as if I was mad.
