Song of the Bamboo Flute
A bamboo flute sings at dusk.
Foreign rulers measured islands,
counted taxes, counted bodies,
but never counted dreams.
The flute remembers fishermen,
mountain rebels, market women.
Its melody slips through checkpoints
and returns home undefeated.
Carabao Remembers
The carabao remembers
every flag planted in mud,
every governor naming rivers
already named by grandmothers.
Its slow eyes watch empires pass.
Rice still grows from peasant hands.
The field keeps older histories
than maps carried by conquerors.
