Not the usual thing for us, but the Construction Historian thinks this definitely counts as a (niche?) part of construction history.
The Construction Historian loves nail history but also the story of how the Norwegian Stave churches were built with hand-cleaved planks. Norwegian government funded major research into how to split a tree into 8 planks. One of the most fascinating papers I have heard at any CHS conference.
