Connecting job seekers in occupations with poor prospects with volunteer "buddies" who have recently exited unemployment and found jobs in new occupations can meaningfully improve employment and earnings outcomes. Bart de Koning et al. cepr.org/voxeu/column... #EconSky

In an RCT, we treat job seekers in slack occupations with information about the better prospects in other suitable jobs. Effects are large: employment, hours of work and labor income all improve by 5%/6% after 18 months, with limited externalities to other job seekers. docs.iza.org/dp17905.pdf

Yesterday, I presented our Skills2Capabilities research on skills in VET curricula at the Belgian Day for Labour Economists. With Ziyue Zhu, Melline Somers and Barbara Belfi, we show that curricula updates are conducive to better labour market outcomes. skills2capabilities.eu/results.html
