Congratulations to the Canes on a thrilling Stanley Cup victory! The Canes brought all of North Carolina together and proved again that Raleigh is a hockey town. I look forward to celebrating with the team back in Raleigh at the People’s House.

Today, on the 249th birthday of our nation’s flag, we honor this beautiful symbol of unity, patriotism, and freedom. As North Carolinians, we can take special pride in being represented on it by both a star and a stripe.

The start of the FIFA World Cup has my high school buddies and me reliving our glory days of the 1983 state championship.
We have an exciting summer of soccer ahead of us here in North Carolina, and I’m cheering on the USMNT as they begin their World Cup journey.
It’s outrageous that State Auditor Dave Boliek and the Auditor’s Office pressured local members of the Jackson County Board of Elections to reject an early voting location at Western Carolina University. All lawful voters, including young people, deserve to have their voices heard.
In this year of America 250, let us take special measure of our star spangled banner and reaffirm our own commitment to a government of, by, and for the people.
I thank the majority of Republican and Democratic county board members for voting for student access to the polls. There is no legitimate reason for the State Board of Election to overrule the local board’s recommendation for the WCU location.

Secretary Lilley and I just returned from a week of meetings in Switzerland and Germany where we let business leaders there know that North Carolina is the best place to grow a business and visit.
