Performative politics at best. It was simple semantics that turned slaves into sharecroppers. A distinction without a distinction for many decades and even today racism is rampant. It is unfortunate these posers couldn’t find something real to do instead of play acting.

Juneteenth reminds us that nothing about freedom can be taken for granted. As we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States, we are also called to reckon with the lasting impacts on Black Americans, and inequality in this country more broadly.
