For a long while, I had used Sadako from Ringu as a character. My first attempt to switch her for a ghost OC resulted in Claire. She eventually became Sadie, sporting a much shorter hairstyle that hides her eyes
Is any of your original characters expies? Or did some headcanons morph a character into an original character?
(An expy is a character that was based on a different character, but with tweaks to their presentation/behaviour to create a new character.)
