New paleogenomic evidence shows that cave lions and modern lions 🦁 interbred during the Late Pleistocene. Just like Modern humans & Neanderthals, wolves & coyotes, polar bears & brown bears. Contact, admixture, and adaptation seem to be recurring themes of the #Pleistocene 🦣🏺🧪
What started as a cloudy, uncertain whale-watching trip in Monterey Bay turned into one of the most incredible #wildlife experiences I’ve ever had. #Dolphins everywhere, dozens of #humpback whales, and my first time seeing these giants up close. Absolutely unforgettable 🐬🦭🐋🌊

A new paper shows that government control of the media across the world already influences the output of #LLMs via their training data and also shows that LLMs exhibit a stronger pro-government valence in the languages of countries with lower media freedom than in those with higher media freedom! 🧪😵‍💫
"History has taught us countless times that hiding behind ambiguous language and silencing critical voices only serves to aid the aggressor and perpetuate further isolation and violence against the colonised" Read the statement #Archeology #Paleoanthropology 👇
What can a 26.5 m² campsite tell us about life 38 ka? Our new study on Friedrichsdorf-Seulberg reveals a short Aurignacian occupation with a hearth 🔥 reindeer processing 🦌 and raw materials 🪨 transported over 170 km A small site with a big story about Ice Age mobility! #Archaeology #Palaeolithic 🦣🧪🏺

Whales' vocalizations might be closer to human "speaking” than we thought! A new study finds that sperm whale clicks show vowel-like structure and phonological patterns, one of the closest parallels to human language in the animal kingdom 🤯 Can't wait to speak to a #whale🐋
