Of course, if the humanities were suddenly replaced by great-books-and-two-genders conservatives, then maybe they'd be spared. But the anti-intellectual right wing project does not care if you are a "scholar-activist" or "just a scholar." They'll hate you just as much either way

Suppose one thinks the humanities are too politicized. (I think this, if only bc pretending publishing in journals is activism harms actual activism.) It is nonetheless stupid as hell to believe the counterfactual that, if the humanities were more apolitical, they would be spared right-wing attacks
The US is destroying its own universities, but surely other countries will see this as an opportunity to invest and pick up the slack!

The political movement coming for our universities does not just hate lefty activist scholarship, they hate scholarship and intellectual activity of any kind. Pretending that, if we police ourselves better, they would leave us be, is just a complete fantasy
People who are like "We need to leave the house, touch grass, and build community!" forget that a) other people suck, b) it's gonna be like 93 degrees today, c) the house is both air-conditioned and where video games are, and d) video games are really good now
