The seldom seen Bristol Room in the Central Library is a replica of the reading room from the old library on King Street, as it would have looked circa 1740. The grandest of its fixtures is this magnificent oak overmantel, carved by the celebrated sculptor and woodworker Grinling Gibbons (1648-1721)
