Great episode & must-listen. As far as "favourite staple podcasts imploding", we never got a Reply All episode on the Reply All breakdown, or Opening Arguments analysis of OA legal saga, but btwn these 2 & others, it does feel like we got how "OG Canadaland" wd've covered its post-2020/2023 self +JB
Thread by @bhaggart.bsky.social on the "AI strategy" (which I think by now expert consensus has generally decided is a misnomer):
Also great bc it was a reminder that finally stuck to check out The North State, @youcaughtscott.com's podcast! Been working my way through back episodes and this one struck me, its last point on fear. The same racist logic that makes white (or NBPOC) cops shoot/ kill Black people incl children.
The List underscores how the current trajectory of AI is not inevitable. Resistance is blossoming everywhere, and anyone can shape the future of AI development.
Amid an onslaught of negative news, this project centers hope.
How about addressing state surveillance that undermines land defence and community action that puts First Nations people in jail and dispossesses them of their land and resources? Oh, right, they need those two things for their âsovereign AIâ infrastructure.
I would also like to say that most of the government's emphasis on First Nations and AI (as well as the leading AI institutes) is on education. I think it is paternalistic to imply that distrust of these systems stems from insufficient understanding of them.
