Just out: spring 2026 in Finland was the warmest ever recorded, with a mean temperature of 4.6 °C. This also brings the records for all seasons into the 2020s: the warmest winter in Finland was in 2020, the warmest spring in 2026, the warmest summer in 2024, and the warmest autumn in 2020.
It is not an overstatement to say that she was one of the leading meteorology researchers in Finland. She supervised my PhD and those of many others. Her death is an enormous loss for the entire meteorology community in Finland and Europe. My thoughts and prayers are with her husband Ewan.
New June forecast for El Niño from ECMWF. All ensemble members are indicating 3 °C or higher El Niño intensity later this year. When you think it cannot go upward anymore... truly remarkable forecast!

I am deeply saddened to tell that Dr. Victoria Sinclair from the University of Helsinki has passed away in a tragic accident. The whole atmospheric science community here in Finland is in shock. It's hard to comprehend that she is gone. Photo: researchportal.helsinki.fi/en/persons/v...
Besides being a great scientist, she was a lovely person and friend. Not everyone was able to sit down at the memorial gathering held at the University of Helsinki today. Her legacy and expertise will live long in younger atmospheric scientists and meteorologists. www.emetsoc.org/in-memoriam-...

Exactly one week ago, I received the heartbreaking news that Victoria Sinclair had passed away. I am still struggling to come to terms with it, but I wish to share a few words of appreciation in her memory.

Global CO2 emissions have plateaued since 2013, leading to a slower growth in atmospheric CO2 than would have otherwise been the case. In a new analysis at The Climate Brink, I've taken look at what would have happened if emissions had continued to grow: www.theclimatebrink....

Can’t say I recall ever seeing this before. More than half of France’s 30+ year-old weather stations set/tied their monthly high-temperature record in May 2026. Some did so as many as 9 times. Unprecedented to witness this level of heat so early in the year.
An estimated 22,596 km² of the UK exceeded the previous May record of 32.8ºC, based on HadUK-Grid provisional data released today, with a peak temperature of 35.12ºC. By comparison, the July 2022 heatwave had an estimated 28,658 km² exceed the old record of 38.7ºC.
