So happy to see two friends in May 2026 GBE's cover ❤️
Congrats @lorenalf.bsky.social and Jorge!!
Anyone here attending #smbe2026 ?
On Monday, 29 June, I'll be presenting our work about genome and chemosensory gene families evolution in Culex species
🦟🧬
See you there?👀
Missed yesterday’s ERGA plenary?
Maria José Ruiz López explored how genomics can shed light on vectorial capacity and insecticide resistance in Culex mosquitoes.

2️⃣ These species are of great public-health importance because they are vectors of different pathogens, such as West Nile virus and Usutu virus 🦠🦟
Despite their epidemiological relevance, these species were previously underrepresented in genomic databases 🔎
3️⃣ By filling this gap, we provide a solid framework for evolutionary analyses across mosquito vectors🧬
They facilitate both fundamental research and applied vector control strategies 🔝
Happy our latest work is out! 🧬🦟
1️⃣ We present chromosome-level reference genomes for four Culex species present in the Mediterranean Basin
🦟Cx. laticinctus
🦟Cx. modestus
🦟Cx. perexiguus
🦟Cx. theileri
They were generated as part of @ergabiodiv.bsky.social initiative's @biogeneurope.bsky.social

@lorenalf.bsky.social et al. scanned the genomes of the four extant species of lynx for recent selective sweeps, revealing species-specific signatures of ecological differentiation in their genomes, with minimal overlap.

Ruiz-López et al. assemble reference sequences for four Culex species, offering crucial resources for exploring the genetic basis of vector competence for different pathogens, and help implement mosquito control efforts and disease prevention.
