Definitely lucked out with having a table by a window at today's market in the little historic town of Fort Langley! Though I should have brought my Brother XII sign because there is a Brother XII connection to the Fort that would give me an excuse to nerd blurb my research.
I talked to Justin Walsh and Shawn Graham about their new Mt Everest project, “Archaeology Impossible,” and what they learned from space archaeology on the ISS. 🏺🧪

My thesis “Archaeological Game Design: Video Game Archaeology as Interpretive Play and Play Preservation” is now online and open access!
You can access the official version here, however this has some figures redacted:

Humanities and Social Sciences: It appears that de-prioritizing the entrenchment of systems of wealth-based power and acknowledging generational disenfranchisement elevates the collective good.
Governments: No.
*Everyone disliked that.*
Conservative Brainiacs: This is the university's fault.

TIL that Ancient Aliens (the TV show specifically) is actually a portal that imparts alien activity into the lives of its audience 🤔
This is so disappointing. It's so ignorant of research into the impacts of AI to think: 1. that people are ok with it being forced into our lives, 2. that it will "strengthen" skills (lol, what??), and 3. that "Canadian values" (whose values, specifically?) will somehow magically make AI good.
Me at my inbox, knowing that today might be the day that the group of 1930 and 1932 aerial photos I ordered weeks ago may finally arrive 👀
🏺As promised, I've finally written up a little blog post looking at the archaeology of all of those 'little guys' we all seem to love so much online. 📜

I'm not a "lump all AI under one umbrella" hater, I know that there are elements of machine learning that can be important and useful tools. But there are still many deeply concerning and unethical issues to AI that makes this continual push of it into our lives so, so gross and frustrating.

Part of my survey of Archaeology YouTube that I presented at the CAAs identified, perhaps unsurprisingly, that the overwhelming majority of heritage YouTube content creators are cishet (and white and male).
There is SO much room for diversity.
Got some queer archaeology? Share it!
