We’re kicking off our new "Tool of the Month" series with the #DriveAFM — an innovative Atomic Force Microscope (#AFM) from Nanosurf from – that precisely measures mechanical and electrical properties of surfaces and can be used to manipulate structures! youtube.com/shorts/dQj-Q... #nanoscience
🧪 Some bacteria are miniature masters of navigation: A built-in “compass” made of #magnetic #nanoparticles helps them to reliably find the optimal habitat. Researchers at the @unibas.ch have now unlocked the magnetic properties of individual #bacteria. youtu.be/yUrNWTjdoS8 nanoscience.unibas.ch
🦷 Better dental reconstructions thanks to optimized zirconia Researchers from the SNI network have published in "Ceramics International" key factors that significantly influence the surface and mechanical properties of dental zirconia. 🧪 nanoscience.unibas.ch/en/news/deta... @unibas.ch @fhnw.ch
Happy Birthday #AFM! To celebrate the first description of the atomic force microscope (AFM) in Physical Review Letters, we spoke to our longstanding honorary member Christoph Gerber, who, together with Carl Quate and Gerd Binnig, invented this groundbreaking instrument. @unibas.ch bit.ly/4raqCOm
🧪 Nanoscience for a better future – Our Annual Report is now online! 📌 Have a look at the diverse activities of the SNI's interdisciplinary research network in 2025: sniunibas.relayto.com/e/annual-rep... @unibas.ch @fhnw.ch @psi.ch @dbsse123.bsky.social @csem.ch #nanoscience #nanotechnology
🎉Congratulations to the winners of this year's ACS Nano Impact Award from our network at the @unibas.ch and @unibe.ch for their publication on controllable quantum effects. 📌More information at: nanoscience.unibas.ch/en/news/deta... #ACSNanoImpactAward #Nanotechnology #Nanoscience #QuantumTechnology
The University of Basel is taking on a co-lead role in National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) ‘Precision’, dedicated to cutting-edge research in high-precision measurements.
Starting on May 17, the Museum #Burghalde in Lenzburg will offer a glimpse into the #micro- and #nanoworld. Integrated into the permanent exhibition, five #NanoCubes use electron microscope images and lenses to provide a new perspective on the exhibits. @unibas.ch @kapoaargau.bsky.social
Researchers from the SNI network have developed a new sensor system based on platinum #nanostructures that allows the optical differentiation of terpene enantiomers at the molecular level. Published in @angewandtechemie.bsky.social nanoscience.unibas.ch/en/news/deta... @unibas.ch #nanoscience
🧪 An international team from the SNI network has succeeded in producing ultra-thin, ordered layers of metal-organic frameworks (#MOFs) at the interface between air and a liquid. They published their findings in “Small Structures”. nanoscience.unibas.ch/en/news/deta... @fhnw.ch @unibas.ch #MOF
