When my mom was dying (literally in her last 24 hours), she seemed to be in pain and I asked them if they could give her more morphine. They said they could not. Why? WHY? So that her misery might possibly be prolonged another couple of hours?

I wish more people understood the natural process of dying so this question wouldn't even be asked. If it isn't this it's, "What if she becomes addicted to the morphine?" (In end stage cancer, we should be so lucky as to face that problem.)
