Yassin Mohamud as Lord Mayor gave a moving speech: "Refugees are part of the Bristolian community, we are part of the UK community... 20 years ago I came here as a refugee. Now I am a Bristolian."
Resident of Lawrence Hill? Our next councillor surgery is TOMORROW (Tuesday 2nd June), 12-1pm at Junction 3 Library.
We're here to try and help with anything council related.
No need to book, just turn up! First come first served. #Bristol #LawrenceHill
Remember - you can report flytipping (and other street issues) directly on www.fixmystreet.com
And if it doesn't get dealt with quickly, email us the reference numbers and we will chase it up! 🏃♂️
An example of a small (but still important!) victory... 👀
This spot on Chaplin St used to attract huge amounts of flytipping. We were able to disrupt this a bit by getting funding for a BikeNest and removing the bin that was attracting it! 🙌

Went to see the Empty Shirts exhibition yesterday on College Green - 1000 shirts designed by young people across Bristol, talking about issues like knife crime, transphobia, & domestic abuse.
Last chance to catch it today 10 til 4 - definitely recommend, v moving.

This is TOMORROW at Easton Family Centre (near the leisure centre) - a free film screening of the People's Emergency Briefing. It looks really interesting (I have got planning committee at the same time or would definitely be there!)

Pleased to get to pop along to the action held today by @thejuryalliance.bsky.social outside Bristol Crown Court.
The right to trial by jury is an essential part of the checks and balances in our legal system. And the changes proposed, would likely actually cost more!

Honoured to attend a really powerful event this week celebrating 20 years of Bristol Refugee Rights - which feels extra important at the moment, in this time period when some are attempting to scapegoat and blame all refugees and asylum seekers.

So stoked to have got to nominate my fellow Green councillor Yassin to be the next Lord Mayor of Bristol - the first from a Somali background! Feels even more important in the current political climate #refugeeswelcome 💚 #Bristol
Happy Eid al-Adha from the Green Party to all who celebrate.
