Anna is a great example of someone w/out a history PhD (her PhD is in political science) who cares deeply about the key principles of the historical method--immersion in the sources & recognition that the past is a foreign country. You don't need a history PhD to write an important work of history!

Was talking to @rachelshelden.bsky.social. If I didn't respect historical method, I'd be done with my book A LOT faster. Without a PhD in history, it took a ton of reading to make sure I understood each time period & wasn't reading today's politics backwards in time where it wasn't a thing.
