What's the crack? BAS, @ucl.ac.uk and @aalto.fi scientists have been studying how cracks develop in Antarctic ice shelves.
Ice shelves act as a natural brake on glaciers. When they break apart, ice flows into the ocean and sea levels rise.

The team found that different types of ice within a shelf vary significantly in how easily they crack.
