@candidamoss.bsky.social I'm reading God's Ghostwriters and finding it fascinating. Quick question... You don't mention the hypothetical Q as a lost source. Is that idea defunct now? Is Mark considered the earliest source as well as the earliest gospel?

I think I'll use the top-left photo from the previous post as the main reference for the painting. In the meantime I need to get very familiar with Arnie's features, so I've sketched him from different angles. Here are some thumbnails, sketched this morning. More info in alt text. #arniecaricature

Here's the expanded pencil sketch of my #arniecaricature using my preferred likeness. This will form the basis of the painting. I like the framing, and I will contrast the cool blues and greys of the background with warmer flesh tones in the foreground.

Update on my #arniecaricature ... I have decided to use a long, skinny canvas, on its side, for the final painting. I think this will help it look more cinematic. It will be 24" x 12".

The vitally important first step is to choose good reference photos of your subject. I avoid red-carpet snaps because harsh paparazzi flashes flatten out the face. I'm looking for refs that throw light on the contours of the head. Here are a few that picked for Arnie in T2. #arniecaricature
