This is of course true for other social democratic parties in Europe (and their environment) as well. The idea of the working class is a carricature of a white, straight, authoritarian and nationalist man in a factory. Ten years (and more) of trying to win them back has been an electoral disaster.

Having spoken to social care workers affected by the changes, I *hate* this language. Party management/vibes is a terrible way to make policy at the best of times but when the futures of several hundred thousand people is at stake, unforgiveable.
This is correct to an extent but I’d urge people to look at events in Scotland from 2007 to about 2015/16, where they very clearly decided that the public had gone completely insane and there was nothing to be done except to stand around huffing and complaining until they sobered up.
The almost-Vulgar Marxist answer would be that after the manifest failure of neoliberalism in 2008 capital is spinning its wheels and since it can't argue a material benefit to capitalism it has to concentrate on postmaterial concerns like gender, race, strength etc.
I for one am excited for a future where GB News is the de facto national broadcaster
