Try to keep things focused on action and learning but the corporate capture of our infrastructure makes my blood boil. We don't need to be a cautionary tale but Ireland seems dead set on becoming a nation run by rent seekers and pillagers.

@bigmeadowsearch.bsky.social I'm familiar with common knapweed on my land (smoother leaf margins) but I found some knapweeds yesterday that had 'toothier' leaf margins. Am I overthinking it or are these two different species?
Any resources to suggest? I intend to go back when in flower.
#bugsky I saw these larvae emerging from a weevil cocoon cage on dock plant? 1st pic mine (Ireland), 2nd & 3rd pics Dock hyper weevil from Naturespot
Looks like sawfly larvae but looking for weevil larvae pics for comparison.
Any ideas @haggewoods.bsky.social @thenorfolkcoast.bsky.social ?
The #BigMeadowSearch is on and I made my first mini meadow trip today in-between school runs.
Perfect excuse to work on plant ID skills, visit the local green sites and find some interesting buggy friends (marmalade hoverflies everywhere!)
Now if only the kids would go to bed.
A ca. 4,500-year-old seed bag from #Egypt, made from reed-grass. It's still in fantastic condition due to the arid desert climate.
On display at Neues Museum Berlin.

New paper out in New Phytologist 🌱

Birds of prey, ants, and rodents are among the most understudied - yet researchers rarely flag them as gaps!
