#OTD 11/6/1944 #BattleOfAtlantic -U980 Sunk by Canso “B” flown by F/O L. Sherman & aircrew from 162 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force NW of Bergen, Norway. Dropping 4 DC's, U-Boat emerged from the plumes of water & began to settle, sinking in 10 minutes. Photo from a/c after attack. @YAWMuseum

#OTD 11/6/1940 #RememberRCN -HMCShps ST. LAURENT & RESTIGOUCHE, become the 1st Canadians to fire on the enemy in the Second World War. The destroyers engaged with guns, German artillery while working close to shore evacuating personnel from Le Havre, France. DND/LAC Photos.
#OTD 10/6/1944 #RememberRCN -HMCS TEME -River class frigate, almost cut in half abaft the bridge in collision with the escort aircraft carrier, HMS TRACKER, in the Bay of Biscay, killing 4 RCN sailors. Towed 200 miles to Cardiff by HMCS OUTREMONT for six months repairs.

#OTD 10/6/1940 #RememberRCN -Italy enters the war, on the side of Germany. HMCS BRAS D’OR (1st) intercepts & seizes Italian freighter Capo Noli in the Gulf of St Lawrence. The ship was attempting to escape Canadian waters & taken into Canadian Merchant Service as Bic Island.
