"Discovery is rarely without risk." Anja often drinks poison. Only by ingesting it does she feel she can truly understand it and thereby better treat the symptoms and, in most cases, find a cure. She acknowledges that it is a quiet and eccentric life but it is enough. Not because Anja is particularly altruistic but because she cannot leave a mystery unsolved and there is no greater mystery than the human body and the ways poison can ravage it.
