Two tier journalism

In the UK, the entire journalistic and op/ed class thinks a small pro-LGBT chalk drawing on a statue in Parliament Square is a scandal, passes over in silence over trans people losing basic legal protections in a shocking SC judgment, and somehow gets more negative attention than racist pogroms
While some claim to be baffled by this unpopularity, it's really just a consequence of heading a govt unpopular for all of the above, while holding no real redeeming traits. The public see him as dislikeable, incompetent, weak, untrustworthy, unprincipled, often with cause. Why would he be popular?
