Made it to Leeds for the annual @ukcilianetwork.bsky.social meeting! Great opening talk by @helenfoster.bsky.social on how ciliary axonemes are assembled!! #cilia
I've been just a wee bit swamped and so haven't managed to bleet/skeet about a few preprints we've posted lately. Will do soon. But in the meantime, please check them out. Lab's been on a tear!

Basal bodies (BBs) are what eventually become motile cilia. So, if they don't get positioned correctly on the apical surface, the whole tissue-level function can go wrong → ciliopathies. We know actin is involved… but how does it actually control this process? 🤔 (3/17)
And now it's out! Happy that PNAS selected for the cover this SEM image snapped by @samjlord.bsky.social, one of the most evocative visualizations of Euplotes that I have ever encountered.

Stay tuned for what is shaping up to be some fascinating follow-up in the lab...
Thank you very much to Prof Joe Howard, Yale University for his fantastic talk at the LSI Distinguished Seminar Series on “How molecular motors drive the motility of cilia and flagella”. @micromotility.bsky.social @exeter.ac.uk

Happy #MicroscopyMonday!

We are very pleased to announce Prof. Paul Guichard and Dr. Virginie Hamel @centriolelab.bsky.social as joint winners of the RMS Award for Light Microscopy 🔬 👏 🏅
Huge congratulations to both!

What could be more exciting than watching Euplotes scurry around under the microscope? How about adding some raptorial predation by supergiant cannibal cells?
