2 things stand out to me reading this book:
1. Nobody knew how big it would become, some thought it might do well but not as well as it did
2. It almost went to United Artists who ummed and ahhed about whether to back it but ultimately didn’t and a generation of moviegoers would never be the same
Something I really like about the old school United Artists VHS releases here in Australia is that Warner Home Video would use the 1982 UA logo in front of the older UA releases,
A shame that that tradition hasn't continued as the new logos are boring
The 1983 Season of A Country Practice has some episodes regarding a bushfire in Wandin Valley and some of the footage looks like it was taken from Channel 7’s coverage of Ash Wednesday
The 2010 James Bond game Blood Stone feels like the movie we would’ve gotten between Quantum of Solace and Skyfall
A lovely touch on the CEL/MGM/UA Australian VHS of 2010: The Year we Make Contact is that the trailer on the tape is for 2001: A Space Odyssey
New Book arrived 👇
“Squad leaders we’ve picked up a new group of signals,
Enemy fighters coming your way”
“Who’s the more foolish the fool or the fool who follows it?”
Wise words from Obi-Wan Kenobi
Whenever I hear this question “I want my country back” the next question should be “back from what?”
Because the way I see it in Australia at the moment those that say that want to go back to a pre-Whitlam Australia,
Where it was much more of a man’s country and the women looked after a home/kids
