The new Bill is likely to blow up any attempted Labour reset in the coming days under current or new leadership. It is difficult to think of anything more unwelcome, divisive or distracting than bringing back a Bill that is widely opposed by experts & vulnerable groups. 2/
Only 7% of Ms Edwards’ constituents support her using her Private Members’ Bill in this way. More than 550 of them signed a petition, organised by a women’s rights group, pleading with her to choose another Bill. She has ploughed on ahead regardless. 7/
