If the commercial version of this software had that baked in, I think that would be pretty fine, actually. (Make it "can't open emails before 0800".)

Software auto shuts at 5pm.
It does not load on weekends, public holidays, & most of August.
Any out of hours messages sent are diverted until 9am on a workday.
It will occasionally refuse to open documents in French in solidarity with striking rail workers.
