This comic introduced the “Second Genesis” team, and sparked what would become Chris Claremont’s legendary sixteen year run on X-Men, later retitled Uncanny X-Men. Len Wein made a lot of significant contributions to the medium of comics, but his X-Men work will always hold a special place for me.

My first introduction to X-Men in media was the 90’s animated series, but Giant-Size X-Men #1 was my very first X-Men comic that I ever read, and still to this day I consider it one of the best comics ever written, and a lot of that can be attributed to Len Wein’s writing and Dave Cockrum’s art.

Today is the birthday of writer & editor Len Wein (June 12, 1948-Sept. 10, 2017). He cocreated Swamp Thing, Wolverine, & most of the new X-Men when he helped revive the team in 1975, and wrote virtually every major hero at Marvel & DC at some point.
