EU Ombudswoman joined experts committed to strengthening environmental governance and human rights at the European Forum on Environmental Defenders. She discussed how we help to ensure transparency, meaningful participation, accountability in EU decision making, including on environmental issues.
We propose the Commission:
🔹 improve handling of access requests involving President's or Commissioners' Cabinets
🔹 retain all texts between Heads of State or Government, or ministers, and Commissioners for a set period
🔹 preserve requested docs until access requests are fully resolved

We have found maladministration for how European Commission dealt with a request for public access to a text message sent by the French President to the President of the European Commission concerning the EU-Mercosur trade deal.
This week in Rome, EU Ombudswoman was at Sapienza University to speak to students about our work. She also attended the International Conference of Ombudsmen on Civic Protection, Rights, and Democratic Innovation, emphasising the role of cooperation in ombudsmanship.
