Good Lord, you know you’re on the cusp of your 60th year when you buy - for the first time - tickets for an RHS garden show
They might if the violence is ‘obviously’ implicitly political - deaths at the hands of the state, deaths caused by unregulated private behemoths perhaps - but ordinarily, “private” civilian deaths no matter how awful only provoke political response when others imbue the death with politics
I think the political outcry and media condemnation - and policy action that followed - was stronger, more determined and more critical of a few dozen people who blocked some roads to highlight climate inaction than it has been for the racist riots and violence in Southampton and Belfast
They had far more legitimate concerns about what’s coming down the environmental track than any of these folk about immigration
