Fwiw I also apply this contempt to actual physical lie detector polygraphs. I wish there were some actionable sanction beyond "not admissable in court" for professionals who conduct them. Consequences for lying are good, and polygraphs are a type of lying.
Lying is bad. Lying about how you built a lie detector is quadratically worse: it's lying (bad!) about how bad lying is (bad!!). And so I don't hate the ads for AI products that don't work nearly as much as I hate ads for AI detector products that don't work. (None of the AI detector products work.)
#ReaderBot: Brian is three-quarters into Gelman, Hill, and Vehtari's "Regression and Other Stories" and should finish in around 5 days. [Brian's Reading List]
