Attending an online Open University Students in Secure Environments (SiSE) event tomorrow as it aligns with another project I am involved with about teaching Greek tragedy in prisons. One paper on this delivered at Durham, and another to come in Sicily in September.
Meeting with new mentee today on the University of Exeter Career Mentor Programme.Been doing this since 2012.Each year I have mentored 2 students looking to move into teaching/ academia. It’s something I’ve really enjoyed doing and hopefully I have been some help to those who have taken part.
Starting work on first draft of paper for conference in Sicily: Greek tragedy as part of trauma therapy for individuals and communities in classical antiquity.
It’s World Gin Day. Say no more.
‘Hyper-stylised, ultra-cool visions’: 10 ways David Hockney changed art www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...
In case anyone may find this of interest: an introduction to Classical Greek language.I’ve run this a few times before (and follow up courses as well). I think it’s gone down quite well. language-centre.exeter.ac.uk/v8media/facu...
Something I was involved in (in an advisory capacity) soon to be out in the world. It’s Augustus related,it's an audio drama over several episodes and it’s fabulous (for which I take no credit:I was just there to advise on historical aspects).More when there’s a bit more to say!
Giving my paper on uses of poisons as methods of assassination in Roman imperial courts at the University of Lodz in Poland in May. Not often I get to venture abroad for academic conferences but there’s another one in Sicily in September, where I’ll be talking about Greek tragedy.
