Allies, if you see discourse about "I'm so worried about saying the wrong thing", check them right fucking there. They're already building an excuse for bad behavior and ignoring the hurt they're going to cause. This same person would feel awful for accidentally dropping something on a person's toe.
As an ally, my responsibility to not misgender. When I do make mistakes (and I will make mistakes) it is also my responsibility to have empathy and understand that it may hurt someone. And be sorry.
I need to empathize with their hurt and not beg patience from them. That's my journey, not theirs.
Stop making being an ally about -you-. FFS, you're whinging about basic human decency: using the right name. The right gender. But understand you're a human, you will make mistakes, and when you hurt someone, even accidentally, that YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD FOR IT!
Make an effort to be better.
